Cake decorating question. Please help?
I am doing a birthday cake for a huge star trek fan. For those of you who know what it is i am making a bottle of romulan ale. It is going to be real beer bottle size and I am having issues figuring out how i am going to do the detailing on the logo. There are a lot of little black lines. If it were bigger I would be able to use fondant, but it’s not. They don’t offer edible markers anywhere near where i live. Please see the link and give me some ideas. I have no clue! Thanks for your help!

If you can get the food coloring powder use a small paint brush, dip the brush into either vodka or gin, then dip it into the powder and paint. You can also mix it together before painting, using the vodka or gin is better than water because it evaporates very quickly and your paint dries very fast.
If you can’t get the powder, use food coloring mixed to get the black you want, you will have to be very careful because too much will cause your fondant to fall apart (if it gets too wet)
If all else fails, print it out, put it on the bottle, just don’t let anyone eat it….
Good luck

Apparently, if you go to wikipedia.com they have a klingon language site. I found it just by typing in klingon language in my search bar.

I need Ideas for a Birthday Party for a girl turning 11 who is very…well, geeky.?
First of all, don’t let the fact that she’s a girl distract you in any way. She’s the opposite of pink and frilly. She’s quite bright and is an amazing artist–even for 10 going on 11. She loves all things technical. She likes to computer game (no platform gaming systems allowed in our house though–nobody would ever get anything done). She likes robots, science, model-making, music of all kinds (especially stuff like punk and metal), Star Trek, and anything GEEK. She does like to just “make stuff” too. I just need some ideas for a party for her friends–a mix of boys and girls–to enjoy. Maybe something *gasp* outside. All ideas welcome, however.
Cake ideas too. Right now I’m considering baking a PC cake.
Wow, you guys have a lot of good ideas! (Except Chucky Cheese–ugh). I have asked her what she wants–she wants something that fits in with her definition of fun and doesn’t care what as long as its not Barbie or the like. Like many gifted kids, she’s having trouble committing to a single concept, lol. Not that she should have to but keeping it down to 5 concepts would be nice.
Keep it coming.
Fizzygurrl: don’t worry about the cake. I’ve done cake decorating before–even wedding cakes. I can make just about anything out of baked goods.

If they like to build, could you purchase some small red bricks or some large cedar blocks. The kids could paint them and even build a small book shelf with the large blocks and just buy a wooden plank or two to make the shelf. They could paint the wood too. Not too advanced but if they like to be artistic then this is something they could do together and you could keep the bookshelf somewhere.
Another artistic thing to do is to buy some canvas ready to paint. Have all the kids paint a picture, self portrait or a picture of the birthday girl. You could have small or large pictures. Check out the your local hobby shop or even local retailer for the paint and things they could paint if they like it so much.
A third idea. Buy a few packs of cheap playing cards and see who can build the best house. Readers digest this past month has an article about a man who is a “geek” and he does this for fun on the side. Look up the article and share it with the kids. Have a camera near by so they can make a scrapbook of their efforts and final project.
