STS-133 wakeup: Star Trek Theme w/ new Shatner voiceover

Chosen by popular vote from a contest last year, the Star Trek theme was one of two winning selections to be final wakeup calls for the last missions of the Shuttle program (STS-133). This morning (March 7 at 3:23 am ET) the crew of Shuttle Discovery were woken up with a special version of the original theme to Star Trek, with a ‘surprise twist’.

    • @Wheeljack35 Actually, (if I may butt in) Discovery was finished in 83 and her first flight was Aug 84. After Challenger was lost in 1986 Discovery was the first shuttle to return to space in 88 and that may be what you’re thinking of. . Endeavor is actually the newest shuttle, built to replace the Challenger.

    • Very cool indeed. As cornball as it may sound to the “Next Generation”, Kirk and his fine crew aboard the USS Enterprise did a great deal to help inspire and uplift our human spirits to keep exploring and reaching for the stars. May our differences here on earth never tarnish our imaginative and curious nature and not dissuade us from continuing to explore the final frontier. I can’t think of a better unifier of peoples. Thank you Discovery of bringing our men and women home so many times.

    • @satxxkenn10 yes, a national treasure for we Canadians. We’ll let the US keep borrowing him though if it makes them feel better.

    • @jani963
it’s nothing special being a canadian,,, btw canada is a corrupt dictatorship.. that’s why Mr Shatter moved out ;-)

    • @DownloadPranks Tell that to the guy who single handedly put an end to the shittle program and any hope of going to the moon and mars in the near futre!!!!!!!

    • Like with all the majestic Space Shuttles, we will all dearly miss Discovery and her contributions to science, but it is now time to brave the final frontier with new spacecraft and boldly go forward where no one has gone before to make new discoveries in science for the benefit of all on this Pale Blue Dot we call home.

    • Looks like NASA is still using old tv’s – no wonder they had to quite the shuttle program!! Buy some flat screens!!

    • With the abandonment of books as our primary means of information convergence—- it may be true that without Star-Trek providing a fictional point of reference, many people could not have EVER appreciated the reality that NASA has created during these last 46 or so years of manned space flight.
